It is important that the teacher’s time is used to the best effect. This means that sometimes the children are working as a whole class, sometimes in groups or pairs and sometimes on their own. Children are expected to work with a growing level of independence.
Teachers are clear about what they want the children to learn in each lesson and share this with the children. Children are not just told what they have to do, they are also told why they are doing it and what we hope they will achieve as a result.
Lessons are designed to get the children as involved as possible. Giving children problems to solve in all areas of the curriculum is one way of achieving this. It allows children to use what they know.
Children should find every lesson a challenge but also feel successful at the end. Teachers work hard to make sure that the work is well matched to the individuals in their group. Children learn best when they are involved, relaxed and their self esteem is high.
