In July we have an annual prize-giving event – The Madejski Award Ceremony. This is a major event. Children assess their own skills in relation to a list of qualities that make them independent learners. This is then moderated by the class teacher and they are presented with certificates that are earned as a result of their achievements.
In Year three, children who have made a significant achievement in all four areas are awarded a bronze certificate. In Year four, this will be silver, in Year five, gold and in Year six, platinum. In the final year they are presented with a booklet containing all the certificates they have earned. Sir John Madejski has been able to present these awards to the children over the last ten years and in his absence Martin Salter, the chair of Aspire 2, has been able to step in.
