21st July 2017
Dear Parents and Carers,
I have been absolutely overwhelmed by kind wishes and goodwill from so many of you since telling you it was time for me to retire. In truth, it’s the goodwill and sense of community and loyalty of you and your children that’s kept me here so long. Whitley is a very special community of proud, generous and close knit families who support each other and hold their children’s happiness and achievements very dear. It is such a privilege to have been part of your community, to have known generations of your families and to have been given your trust. I’ve often said being a Headteacher is the best job in the world, but being the Headteacher of Geoffrey Field Junior is really special. Whenever I mention our school, people’s faces always light up and they talk about it’s great reputation, it’s warm atmosphere and the friendliness and politeness of the children and staff. With this in mind I am delighted to say that the new Headteacher Miss Hancock is determined to keep all that’s good about our school whilst keeping it moving ever forward to make sure our children are given increasingly more opportunity, choice and challenge. She understands the extent to which our children respond well to being respected and well taught; and needless to say she will be supported by a very special team of dedicated and talented teachers and other adults.
When I wrote to tell you I was leaving I said the part of the job I would miss most is greeting the children in the morning. Well, I certainly will! So when you see me around please come and say hello. And, of course, I’d love to think the children will give me a smile and come and have a word too and tell me how they’re getting on. I always say to the year sixes on the day they leave that they will always be Geoffrey Field Junior pupils, and that applies to the adults too. We all learn together at Geoffrey Field and I’ve learnt enormously from our delightful children.
Thank you for 29 wonderful years.
Good luck, be happy and farewell
Charlie Clare
Headteacher
P.S. actually it is not quite farewell, I am remaining a trustee of Aspire 2 and of Ufton Court – so I will be around doing my best to keep the opportunities coming for our children.
